We just got back from a week-long trip to the beach. Nope, not a frozen drinks with umbrellas and reading books, trip to the beach. This one had a newborn and toddler in tow. Think baby sunburns and sand in the eyes kind of trip to the beach. Reality set in on the first day when we lasted about an hour on the beach, despite it taking us about 30 minutes to set up. Side note: set up shop near the sand that’s dampest, not the loose sand that finds it way into mouths and eyes. We didn’t take a lot of food because sandy hands but had a few packs of crackers and pouches on hand to last until lunchtime which we enjoyed back at the house. If lunch on the beach was necessary, we would have packed some sandwiches and put away the sand toys (less tempting) until we finished eating. Despite a few minor mishaps, we had an incredible time. Our almost two year old son Bowie, loved the water, learned a whole new set of vocabulary words (sand castle! golf cart! waves!), caught his first fish, and most importantly, I got to share one of my favorite summer traditions, a trip to the same beach my family has been going to since before I was born. These sweet memories make it all worth it. Image via Jcrew
