Cravings can be difficult to navigate during pregnancy. One week you crave kale and think this is easy, what weight gain? The next week you only want carbs and suddenly the doctor is talking to you about a healthy weight gain. It can be overwhelming and frustrating until you come across a product like an acai bowl that solves all of your craving problems. Austin-based Acai company Blenders and Bowls shared their Original Acai recipe, making it easy for you to customize to satisfy your sweet, savory, or healthy cravings. Guilt-free indulgence, our favorite.
Original Acai Recipe
1 Frozen Banana diced
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
4 oz. almond milk, coconut water, water
1 pack of acai or acai powder. If you can’t find frozen acai, they suggest powder form. Use less liquid if using powder form.
Optional to add nut powder, protein, greens, or supplmenents to the blend
1/2 cup of organic granola
1 handful of strawberries
1 ripe banana
1 tsp. of local honey
Optional to add goji berries, bee pollen, or coconut shreds
Take the blend ingredients and add to blender starting with the liquid. Make sure the blend is so thick that if you were turn the blender upside down, nothing would come out. Scoop out the blend using a spatula and place in your favorite bowl, adding your favorite toppings. Drizzle with honey.

Blenders and Bowls was founded by two best friends, Erin and Kara, after moving from Hawaii to Austin. They realized Acai, the Brazilian superfood, was missing from the Austin scene and opened a food truck to test the market. Soon after, they opened their first brick and mortar and have since opened a second location, with a third location on the way. Read more on Blenders and Bowls here.
